Maruti Suzuki - Delivering Sustainable Development by Inclusive Methods

New-Delhi, India - Leading automobile manufacturer in India, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd released its Annual Integrated Report for the financial year 2019-20. The company has likewise featured its commitment to the different Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“The COVID-19 epidemic has given your Company, as well as its vendors and dealers, an opportunity to review all systems of working and become more efficient and competitive. Thus, while we are going through difficult days, I believe we will all emerge stronger and fitter in the future,” said R C Bhargava, Chairman, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, addressing stakeholders through this report. He further stated in the current market that the situation favours smaller hatchbacks and petrol & CNG cars, which the company is well placed for such products. On the approach towards Human Resources he added that the employees continue to be the greatest strength of the company, working unitedly for growth and prosperity, a win-win situation is created for everyone. The competitiveness of the Company also is very high, and it is able to meet and overcome all challenges. Sharing optimism Bhargava concluded, “I look to the future with a great deal of optimism. Many new opportunities are likely to open as the world adjusts to the post-COVID-19 scene. The government has always been very supportive of manufacturing and I expect conditions for increasing our competitiveness and growth will continue to get better in the coming year.”

In similar lines addressing stakeholders through this report, Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd asserted that the Indian economy is quite resilient, and it may recuperate relatively faster as well. In addition, the company is also making all-round efforts to both participate and drive this recovery. He further explained the Company's approach to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, may require careful analysis of the changing world, and accordingly, the strategy, resources and structure need to be realigned. On the technology front, Ayukawa asserted that one of the priorities of the world is to reduce carbon footprint and India also needs to reduce its oil imports. The Company is going further and following a philosophy of reducing carbon footprint with every new model introduction. For further reduction to meet the future CO2 targets, the company is adopting a mix of powertrain technologies based on electrification and CNG. It is not only providing its support for requisite technology but also partnering to putting up India’s first Lithium-ion cell and battery manufacturing facility.
