Taurus Revolutionizes Manufacturing with Two New SPMs

Taurus is a renowned Special Purpose Machines manufacturer that caters to the diverse requirements of the machine building industry. Established in 1981, the company specializes in a variety of international, standard and tailor-made import substitution SPM machines at an competitive price. Equipped with a seasoned design staff and experienced technicians, Taurus has been building machines to the customer’s satisfaction since decades. Now as part of the AceMicromatic group, with its acquisition by Ace Designers, Taurus adds to the rich variety of companies that make the group a true leader in the industry. With over 3,500 installations, Taurus SPMs serve varied industry segments – Automotive, General Engineering, Refractory, Ceramics, Gas Cylinder to name a few.

Taurus is displaying two very new SPMs at IMTEX 2025 that are designed and manufactured for the first time in the country – FUSION-60 and TRCM-22.

Taurus Shaft Preparation Machine FUSION 60
FUSION-60 is a unique concept machine that combines three operations usually done on three machines onto one machine. Patent for the same is in process. This machine is suitable for shaft type components. Operations namely bar cutting, facing, and centring on both ends and OD turning on one end of the shaft component can be completed in one setup. The output from this machine is a shaft component that is cut to a required length, faced and centred on both ends and OD turned on one side to a length that will facilitate chuck or collet holding. Thus, once these operations are completed, the shaft from this machine is fully ready for further turning and grinding operations.

The machine is equipped with a 3 m or a 6 m Bar Feeder mechanism. This allows the bars to be fed automatically and cut to length. Then a built-in gantry inside the machine transports the cut bars for further operations, namely – facing and centring on both ends and OD turning on one end. This eliminates the need of several operators in addition to the savings in the floor area on the shopfloor.

All the operator needs to do is load the bars into the loader chute of the bar feeder. The machine then takes care of all operations, delivering a shaft through the exit chute or conveyor, which can be picked manually or via an automation system for further operations.
Since the component remains undisturbed in its position during auto-loading from one operation to another, the machining accuracies are superior compared to when the process is performed using three setups on three separate machines.

The machine facilitates parallel operations, resulting in a significantly reduced cycle time. As an indicative example, a bar Φ 60 mm can be processed in approximately 45 seconds. The operations completed include cutting the bar to length, facing and centering on both ends, and turning the OD to 30 mm length on one end.

The machine operations are controlled through a full-fledged CNC System (FANUC) with all axes equipped with Fanuc servo motors.

Some of the important features in the machine include – Precision Ball Screws and LM Guides on all axes and rigid BT series Spindles.

The machine is suitable for shafts with diameters between 10 mm to 60 mm and lengths between 180 mm to 500 mm.

Taurus Riser Cutting Machine – TRCM-22
Taurus Riser Cutting machine TRCM-22 is suitable for the cutting of ‘Riser and Runners’ on aluminum alloy castings for automobile alloy wheels. The machine is designed to take alloy wheels from 10 in to 22 in diameter.

This machine has an intelligent system equipped with uniquely developed software and hardware, incorporating features that entirely ‘de-skill’ the operation process. A high-resolution camera at the input chute captures the image of the incoming component and loads it into one of the four stations within the machine. The system then automatically configures all necessary settings, including the clamping mechanism, appropriate CNC program, axes travel, and cutting parameters.

The next component to be loaded at the subsequent station can have entirely different dimensions (diameter and height). The machine accurately recognizes this new component and adjusts its settings instantly and automatically. This eliminates the need for a skilled operator to be present at all times to run the machine. Also, this machine’s intelligent system facilitates Single Piece flow instead of normal Batch manufacturing.
The machine is of an integral design and is highly compact. All elements are machine mounted including all electrical items. The electrical panel and the operator panel are machine mounted and ergonomically accessible. This design allows the machine to be easily moved from one place to another. Also, electrical control panels are also compact and fitted with AC panel coolers / heat exchangers. Due to this, the machine need not a have separate AC room for its control panel.

The machine has a rigid base that is optimized using FEMA analysis. It has a four-station rotary mechanism. Each station is equipped with a pneumatically operated self-centering three-jaw chuck. The jaws automatically clamp the component based on the input size.

All operations in the machine are controlled by a CNC System (FANUC) and high-torque Axes Servo Drives (FANUC) with absolute encoders. Component loading and unloading is with a custom-made automation system. The machine bed is designed for a better chip disposal and a heavy-duty chip conveyor is optional.

The machine features a centralized auto lubrication system and a mist coolant system for cutters. It is designed with adequate ground clearance to facilitate easy maintenance. The machine guards are not only intended for safety but are also designed to be maintenance-friendly.
