IIT Roorkee and ICAT Join Forces for Indian Automotive Innovation

Gurugram, India – IIT Roorkee and International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) have come together In a significant move towards India’s vision of ‘VIKSIT BHARAT @ 2047’, and to revolutionize the automotive industry in India. Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey, Union Minister for Heavy Industries, leads this alliance to advance automotive innovation in India. The Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, has high automotive industry goals. This collaboration, confirmed by an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), will advance India’s automotive technology.

The MoU signing ceremony, chaired by Dr Pandey, involved key officials from both organizations. The focus extends beyond clean mobility to emerging technologies like autonomous driving, AI, and enhanced safety measures. This collaboration aims to pioneer Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), develop 6G technologies, and advance smart vehicle propulsion systems. It leverages IIT Roorkee’s innovation ecosystem, housing over 150 startups dedicated to practical innovation.

ICAT’s role includes enhancing technology readiness levels for innovations from IIT Roorkee's faculty and student-led startups to align them with industry needs. IIT Roorkee's forward-looking strategy includes the establishment of a state-of-the-art Connected Simulator setup, which will be instrumental in technology advancement. This initiative positions IIT Roorkee as a vital player in driving technological progress and innovation in India.

This partnership signifies a significant leap forward for the Indian automotive industry, focusing on research, development, and innovation to meet evolving sector demands.
