Shyam Metalics and Energy Enhance Captive Power Plant Capacity and Sponge Iron Production

Mumbai, India – Shyam Metalics and Energy Ltd (SMEL), a prominent integrated metal producing firm headquartered in Kolkata, has announced the commissioning of production capacities at their Jamuria, West Bengal, manufacturing site. The capacity of the captive power plant will increase by 90 MW, from 267 MW to 357 MW. The company sources 75 percent of its power requirement from the captive plant. The incremental addition will lead to 80 percent of power sourcing internally, which leads to significant cost savings. The company has also boosted its Sponge Iron production, commissioning an incremental capacity of 1,65,000 TPA, leading to an enhanced total capacity of 2.7 MTPA.

Shyam Metalics offers a diverse range of metal goods under one roof. Pellets, sponge iron, billets, TMT Rods, Wire Rods, Angles, Channels, Beams, Ferro Chrome, Ferro Silicon, Silico Manganese, Low Carbon Ferro Chrome, and Aluminum Foil are all manufactured and sold by the company.

Following the acquisition and expansion, the company will include pig iron, DI Pipes, Stainless Steel (SS) / Wire Rod & Bar Mill, giving it a diverse, one-stop solution for metal products. The company’s products like SEL TMT rebars wire rods and structural products are sold under the brand name SEL which delivers attributes of strength, elasticity and longevity. SMEL has been able to sell 70 percent of the products within a radius of 500 Kms of the plants.
