WIDIA Introduces a New Chipbreaker for Aluminum Machining

Latrobe, US – WIDIA™ has expanded its ISO Turning portfolio with an AL Geometry, strengthening its broad offering of affordable tooling solutions for small to medium-sized machine shops machining aluminum and non-ferrous materials. For increased machining versatility, the AL Geometry insert is available in two grades: uncoated microfine carbide WU10HT and PVD AlTiN coated WU05PT. To increase customer tooling options, each grade is available in all popular styles, including C, D, R, T, and V inserts.

The AL Geometry insert provides additional benefits in addition to increased product versatility from multiple grade and style offerings. A highly polished rake face improves chip flow, which results in shorter set up times due to less manual chip retrieval after each cut. The sharper cutting edge on the periphery ground insert improves overall tooling precision and reduces cutting forces. Reliable tooling performance means customers can devote more time to machining and less time to post-machining deburring operations because of the reduction in built-up edge.

The AL Geometry is the universal solution for customers seeking lower cutting forces, extended tool life, and increased tooling productivity when machining a variety of non-ferrous workpiece materials, particularly aluminum. It is versatile, reliable, and cost-effective.

“The AL Geometry portfolio offers tooling versatility when machining different components and workpieces, while also providing more precise and reliable machining performance,” stated Anil Kumar, WIDIA Global Turning Portfolio Manager. “By focusing on both tooling performance and value, we’re helping our customers maximize their return on our products.”
