Mesa, US – Boeing has been awarded a $103.7 million contract by the US Department of Defense as part of a foreign military sale to Thailand of eight AH-6 light attack reconnaissance helicopters. Spares, training devices, support equipment, and technical publications are also included in the deal for the Royal Thai Army. As part of the country’s defense modernization efforts, the agreement allows the Royal Thai Army to replace its fleet of obsolete AH-1F Cobras. The aircraft will be produced in Mesa, Arizona, with deliveries planned through 2024.
Thailand is Boeing’s second overseas buyer for the aircraft. For more than 60 years, Boeing has been a trusted partner to Thailand’s aviation and defense customers.
The AH-6 is a beneficiary of ongoing AH-64 Apache modernization efforts, with an advanced mission computer capable of processing large amounts of data and quickly sharing system information with the rest of the aircraft, improving safety and situational awareness, enabling faster decision making, reducing pilot workload, and lowering support costs throughout the aircraft’s life cycle.
Jessie Farrington, Business Development Director - Attack Helicopter Programs, Boeing, said, “We welcome Thailand’s selection of Boeing’s AH-6 light attack reconnaissance helicopter and look forward to working with the US and Thai governments as part of the foreign military sale process. From its unmatched power-to-weight ratio to its extensive, integrated digital communications suite, the AH-6 offers superior performance, capability, and versatility and will be a force-multiplier for the Royal Thai Army.”
