Mysuru, India – Sundaram Auto Components Ltd (SACL), a TVS Group company and one of India’s leading plastic auto component manufacturers, has received the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance’s (JIPM) ‘Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Excellence Award’ for its Mysuru plant. SACL joins a select group of 24 companies from around the world and six from India who have received this honor.
A team of experts from JIPM conducts the TPM award assessment in two stages, with the aim of assessing the factory’s policies, practices, and performance in relation to the eight pillars of the TPM technique. The TPM award from JIPM is highly coveted around the world, and it is a testament to SACL’s commitment to improving product quality and production efficiency at its Mysuru plant by preventing equipment breakdowns, improving equipment quality, and standardizing equipment. With the TVS Group leading the way in TQM and TPM implementation in India, it was only natural for SACL, a wholly owned subsidiary of TVS Group, to follow suit.
The journey began in August 2016 at the company’s Mysuru plant, with the goal of increasing customer satisfaction through on-time delivery of the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost. As a result, the plant’s overall equipment efficiency increased by 20 percent between 2016 and 2021, resulting in a 50 percent reduction in lead time to service customers and a 33 percent reduction in line defects. All of this resulted in a significant decrease in manufacturing costs, allowing the company to remain competitive in an ever-increasing market. The morale of the workers at the plant was greatly improved as a result of this exercise.
Honored to receive the award from JIPM, which is the highest standard of TPM awards at the global level, Rajesh Oommen, President, SACL, added, “The team has worked diligently to implement, imbibe, and standardize the overall framework of TPM, which has resulted in higher productivity by minimizing losses. I am sure this recognition will further inspire the team to achieve higher performance.”
