Frankfurt am Main, Germany – VDW (German Machine Tool Builders’ Association) and the Machine Tool and Manufacturing Systems Association within the VDMA, unanimously elected Franz-Xaver Bernhard as their new Chairman at their fall meeting.
Franz-Xaver Bernhard was unanimously elected as the new Chairman by the Executive Board of the VDW (German Machine Tool Builders' Association) and the Machine Tool and Manufacturing Systems Association, VDMA at its fall meeting.
Bernhard will succeed Dr Heinz-Jürgen Prokop, who will step down at the end of his second term of office after six years, according to the VDW bylaws, on January 1, 2022.
Bernhard has been involved with the VDW since 2001, first as a member of the Economic Committee. He was appointed Chairman of the Committee in 2003, and he has been a member of the VDW board since 2013.
On the selection, Bernhard said, “I am more than pleased by the trust which has been placed in me and look forward to my future tasks on the VDW Board. The machine tool industry is going through difficult times. Although orders are now coming through again in greater numbers, the supply bottlenecks are preventing orders from being delivered in many cases. At times like these, it is important to point out and explain to business partners and the public why a medium-sized industry like ours has its hands tied.”
