Magnifying Process Efficiency

Organized by the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) the ‘Symposium on Automation & Robotics’ on September 17-18, 2021, as a virtual event was a success. Highlights follow…

The IMTMA-organized Symposium witnessed a record participation of over 2,500 delegates from over 190 companies, across a wide cross-section of the Manufacturing industry. It featured presentations on various facets of automation through case studies and technology presentations.

Insightful presentations
While Dr Vijay P Bhatkar, Chairman, Centre for Development of Advanced Computing, Government of India (CDAC) and Chancellor, Nalanda University, spoke on ‘Automation Beyond Imagination’, Dr Michael Kleinkes, Managing Director, VMT Vision Technic, Germany, educated the audience on the ‘Machine Vision for Manufacturing’.

‘Artificial Intelligence in Automation and Manufacturing’ was the chosen subject of Bernd Lieberth, Head - Factory Automation and Presale Support Team (APAC), Siemens.

Twelve case studies and four technology presentations were presented over the course of two days at the Symposium:

  • Mahindra and Mahindra on ‘SMART human-robot collaboration (COBOT) with 7th axis’
  • Dana Anand India on ‘Nissan line automation and digitalization’
  • Godrej & Boyce on ‘Throughput improvement at the medical refrigerator line by automating the processes’
  • Ashok Leyland on ‘Implementation of Industry 4.0 in engineering assembly covering robotics and automation’
  • Titan Company on ‘BTI in BCM break through innovation in back cover manufacturing’
  • Badve Engineering on ‘Productivity improvement through automation’
  • Adler Mediequip on ‘Automation in hex punching for bone screws’
  • Hyundai Motor India on ‘Global first 6D vision guidance system for panel depalletising post’
  • Bosch on ‘Automated visual inspection with artificial intelligence’
  • Amphenol Interconnect India on ‘Semi-automatic color band’
  • Mekhos Technology Services & Terumo Penpol on ‘Breakable cannula assembly machine’

Recognizing efforts through awards

To recognize and reward companies that have excelled in achieving superior performance in the industry through implementation of automation and robotics projects, the Association conferred upon them the IMTMA – ‘ifm electronic’ Automation Excellence Awards 2021 during the Symposium.

Dana Anand India Pvt Ltd won the first prize for its case study on ‘Nissan line automation and digitalization’.

Mekhos Technology Services & Terumo Penpol won the second prize for its case study on ‘Breakable cannula assembly machine’.

Godrej & Boyce won the third prize for its case study on ‘Throughput Improvement at the Medical Refrigerator Line by Automating the Processes’.
